Joe Hughes International is a business dedicated to the supply of speedway and grasstrack goods to businesses and riders throughout the world. A family run business since day one which was founded by the late Joe Hughes, who himself was a recognised speedway and grasstrack rider during the 60’s and 70’s (Joe’s story).
It was during the 70’s when Joe was traveling to international meetings on the continent that he made many of his business contacts. One of the first was with the Frey family of Daytona Boots, and we have been their sole UK importer of track racing products for over 30 years. Joe raced regularly with the likes of Hans Zierk, Otto Lantenhammer, and Otto Weiss of Germany, Jan-Holm Nielsen and Kurt W Petersen of Denmark, Barry Briggs of New Zealand, and Ab de Groot of the Netherlands. All of these became both customers, suppliers, and more importantly friends. Joe Hughes International came to be a full time business when Joe retired from all forms of racing in 1981.
During the 90’s the business became a true family affair with Joe’s daughter, Natalie, and son, Morgan joining the company full time. It is safe to say that Joe used his vast contacts and knowledge to become the leading speedway and grasstrack stockists in the world. In addition to Daytona boots, Joe Hughes International is the sole worldwide distributor of John Shirt chainguards, Surflex speedway clutch plates, and the Prodrive 115 silencer. We are also distributors of NGK spark plugs, Regina chains, K&N air filter, Joker Machine products, Stuha frames, LZ components, Renthal handlebars and grips, Venhill cables and controls, and many more. To meet the ever increasing demands of the speedway market, we moved to a new purposely built showroom and warehouse facility on Victory Road in Derby, which is where we are still located today.
Nathans of Derby
Joe’s eldest son, Nathan preferred the more sedate pastime of fishing and under the umbrella of Joe Hughes International opened his first tackle shop in 1990. With a keen head for business, like his farther, he has grown the fishing side to include a large well stocked angling centre located in Derby, with a busy online order facility, and a large wholesale warehouse.
